- Sr. Principal Clinical Specialist - Cardiac Surgery
Description
This person will live in the Central part of the US, MN, IL, MO, KS, TX and preferralby near a major airport.
We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Training Education Consultant to add to our team. This is a high level, individual contributor that will provide technical, clinical, educational and field support to ensure safe adoption of Medtronic's Surgical Based Therapy (SBT) products and procedures in the US region. Works closely with customers, OR staff and field organization to drive procedural and practice success. Leads regional education and training activities in support of SBT new hire product training.
This role will serve as the customer and field technical resource for SBT. Provide expertise and leadership in the areas of physician training post Medtronic program attendance, residents/fellows and early career surgeon education, wet lab management and facilitation. Will also provide clinic and implant coverage post physician training for procedural and product support of new implanting.
This position reports to the West Area Manager, Cardiac Surgery
NOTE: This position will focus primarily in the US but will participate in global programs and conferences as needed such as Europe, Japan and Latin America.
Position Responsibilities:
Technical and Clinical Support
Provides technical leadership regarding implantation of SBT products and procedures. Educates customers and OR staff on indications for use of SBT products.
Develops and maintains comprehensive clinical and technical product knowledge.
Assists and/or serves as consultant to customers as well as sales staff with troubleshooting and complex case challenges.
May assist field and medical affairs in customer communication regarding device complaints and/or explants.
Customer Education Support
Collaborates with sales personnel on appropriate targeting for customer attendance at physician training programs.
Engages with customers prior to attendance at training event.
Provides post-training follow up including procedural reviews, in-servicing and first case(s) support, especially post minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) training.
May be influential in key customer relationships.
Provides clinic and implant coverage (approx. 10% of total time) when schedule allows.
Participates in the proactive dissemination of peer-reviewed scientific and clinical information to customers as needed.
Product Training Support for Sales Personnel
Supports new-hire training.
Provides technical expertise for regional education and training activities.
Competitive Intelligence and Clinical Evidence
Expert in competitive technology and therapies. Disseminates competitive information to regional teams. Delivers competitive training to sales staff.
Stays current with regard to publications and clinical evidence. Effectively and regularly disseminates information and training to sales staff.
Resident/Early Career Surgeon Support
Partners with sales to communicate and execute resident and early career surgeon initiatives.
Maintains relationships with attending surgeons in academic programs as appropriate.
Partners with CS DM's, and field to communicate and execute SH-SBT resident and early career surgeon initiatives.
Administrative Responsibilities
Schedules travel arrangements to ensure multiple objectives are accomplished.
Submits accurate and timely expense reports.
Maintains hospital eligibility/access with various vendor credentialing services.
Communication
Maintains a high level of communication with appropriate CS sales and leadership within assigned geography.
Ensures a professional standard of written and verbal communication at all times.
NOTE: This role requires 75 - 80% travel across the Western half of the US

Must Have:
Physician Assistant (PA) Degree with 5+ years of experience supporting cardiac surgery procedures in the OR (10+ years' experience with a Bachelor's) or (8+ years with a Master's).
Experience with cardiac implantable devices.
Experience with education and training techniques.
